With the afternoon dragging on, my first hint that the B&O unit would be delayed was when this empty Herzog Ballast Train came southbound through Ridgefield Park. On any other day, the train it was leading would have definitely come by, by now. I thought I was got a lucky break when it was reported that it was still near Syracuse at 10:30 that morning. I figured it would arrive in New Jersey around 2-4pm. Nope. No such luck. I figured track work was the likely cause of the delays.
