The Southern Pacific #: 4449 "Daylight" is the only surving GS-4 4-8-4 "Northern" class steam locomotive. It was built for the Southern Pacific Railroad on May 20th, 1941 and pulled the famous named trains of the Golden State service in California. It was retired in 1957 and was donated to the city of Portland in 1958. It currently sits at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland, OR. This museum had to be the safest of all the locations I attempted to railfan in the city.
