The Spokane, Portland, and Seattle #: 700 is not only the last but oldest remaining E-1 4-8-4 "Northern" class steam locomotive. It also holds the distinction of being the oldest surviving original locomotive for the Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railway. It was built in May 1938 for the Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railway and only served that railroad before being retired in 1956. It was donated to the city of Portland and now sits at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland, OR. By far, the only safe location to see trains in the city.
